Diet really is so important if you want to combat your Anxiety from a position of strength. By that I mean that if your diet is very acidic, then conquering Anxiety Attacks and the Anxiety that follows is going to be all that much harder. Once your diet's sorted out and your body's back in balance, then at least you're starting on level ground.

So let's see if we can help you with your diet and put you on the right road to start your recovery.

Believe it or not, fruit juice, too, is alkaline and is very good for you. Plenty of fruits and raw vegetables are the ideal, but I can well understand how uncooked vegetables sound to many people. At least don't cook them until they're a mush!

Protein-wise, 50 grams a day should suffice, unless you happen to have a job that's very strenuous, or you engage in heavy workouts and a lot of road work and running generally. Then obviously you'd require more. The protein intake itself should consist of 7% animal protein, (or the vegetarian equivalent), or 36 ounces of good yoghurt.

Following is a list, a very partial one I might add, of fruits and vegetables that you'll find will greatly assist you in your battle against Anxiety.

Parsnips,
Rutabagas,
Cauliflower,
Mushrooms,
Green Beans,
Peas, (fresh or frozen),
White Potatoes,
Tomatoes,
Tangerines,
Strawberries,
Pineapples,
Oranges,
Grapes,
Apricots,
Peaches,
Pears,
Apples,
Dried Figs,
Dried Dates,
Bananas,
Raisins,
Avocados,
Sweet Potatoes,
Watermelons,
Almonds,
Celery,
Sauerkraut,
Lettuce,
Cucumber,
Cabbage,
Beets,
Brussels Sprouts
and Raw Spinach.

Now, if you read through this list, but find there's something you like by way of a fruit or vegetable that isn't there, don't worry. It's almost certainly quite acceptable. The great thing about eating like this is that not only is it helping your Anxiety, you're going to feel so much better.

I'm most fortunate. I'm married to a lady who knows all about diet, what we should and shouldn't eat, so the meals she prepares are always balanced and varied. Heaven knows how she keeps thinking them up!

I'm lucky, too, in that I'm as skinny as a rail, but even so, the sort of diet I've suggested isn't for slimming, necessarily. It's to arm yourself in your fight against our common enemy, Anxiety.

The foods to avoid are things like big, stodgy cakes and buns, white bread, indeed anything that looks as though it'll slow you down.

Purely out of interest, science is looking more closely than ever on the types of food we eat, relative to finding a definitive cure for Anxiety. They've even found that a gluten-free diet helps Schizophrenics a great deal

Mike Bond, giving us advice about the foods that help us fight Anxiety. Particularly when the fruit is nutrient dense, it sends a strong signal to the body that it is properly nourished. In a properly nourished body, leptin hormone turns off the urge to eat.

Studies have shown that organic dried fruit has the following benefits:

1. For instance, the antioxidant power of dried blueberries can be four times higher than fresh blueberries. Dried and organic fruits are packed with vitamins, minerals, even vital enzymes, and polyphenols.

A February 2009 issue of the British Journal Nutrition stated that a study conducted to find the impact of eating dried plum concluded that its consumption slows the progress of atherosclerosis, the condition in which waxy plaque is accumulated in the blood vessels. The slowed progress of atherosclerosis also results in slowed progress of cardiovascular diseases and may even reverse the accumulation of plaque in veins and arteries.

Another study was published on August 2008 issue of Cancer Research. The publication revealed that eating dried black raspberries precludes the progress of cancer by restoring the carcinogen-altered and damaged genes into their normal state.

The following selections are among the highly recommended organic dried fruits for consumption as part of meals or as snacks:

1. Raisins - that are dried grapes, which bring benefits such as protection from gum disease and cavities, osteoporosis and macular degeneration. Not so again. Industrial pollution and attendant chemical settlements that are invisible to the eye constitute great health hazards that threaten human lives.

Rapid industrialisation and attendant pollution result in untold hardships among common, helpless, people. It is gratifying to note with a sigh of relief that there is a system that prevents the edible items from the hazards of industrial pollution. Based primarily on removing contamination by oxidation - the process combines Ozone (O3) with any edible item - most of which are fruits and vegetables. Ozone is a natural oxidizing agent. It kills bacteria, viruses and other micro-organisms via oxidation. Water, food, and utensils treated with ozone are free of harmful organisms. Its bactericidal power is far superior to other sterilizing agents.

It is based on the age-long Chinese traditional medical civilisation. Its unique formula and hi-tech production prevents electromagnetic interference to ensure greater product stability and higher ozone output. This curbs bacterial growth effectively to give cleaner and purer air whether in the office or home environment. The system also removes pesticides on fruits and vegetables, disintegrates hormone residues in meat and seafood, kills bacteria, bleaches and removes stubborn dirt, keeping food fresh.

Below are some facts about Chinese Traditional Medicine to date:

The only civilisation that has endured continuity for over 5,000 years;

China has an enduring legacy in food supplement and alternative medicine;

Chinese technology is often a hybridization of western orthodox medicine with a baseline of indigenous Chinese philosophy

The WHO and other UN Agencies on Food and Drug Administration have often recognised and recommended China's expertise in alternative medicine.

While the fruits and vegetables available in the open markets are prone to hazardous contamination as outlined above, China has spear-headed a revolutionary idea. The product eliminates all the pollutants and chemicals, using Ozone (O3), and other elements with varying oxidizing power and neutralising effects - preserving the vital nutrients in fruits and vegetables.

In today's highly polluted environment, it has been postulated that the ordinary average man is exposed to hazardous chemicals that are capable of reducing his lifespan by about 10 - 15 years. Now, a unique fruit and vegetable cleaner automatically restores the lost nutrients, and consequently the lost 10 - 15 years.

ADE ADEWOLU

Did you find those tips on how to increase nutrient content in your fruit and vegetables helpful?

For more information and helpful hints and tips on fruit and vegetable cleaner, log on to: [http://unique-laptop-business.com/FruitandVegCleaner.aspx]

Before leaving this site, I would like to give you a Special Gift for taking time to read one of my articles. A zucchini-like squash, Butterstick is a good variety to grow if you like yellow summer squash. They are handsome, prolific and delicious.

We are probably all a bit tired of the dark green zucchini squash that is hard to give away to your neighbors. You won't have that problem with Butterstick, because you'll want to keep it for yourself. Let's take a close look at Butterstick summer squash to see how it might earn your regard as one of the favorite vegetables in your garden.

Here are the reasons that Butterstick summer squash is one of my favorites:

It grows easily and eagerly. Like other squash varieties, Butterstick is easy to germinate and grows quickly. You'll find the plant is sporting blossoms just after it has a few mature leaves on it and measures only a foot across. In another week, it comes out quickly with nice yellow fruit.

You get an abundant crop. Butterstick provides a bounty of squash, more than zucchini. It isn't uncommon to have 6 or more fruits forming at the same time.

Butterstick fruit is similar in shape to a zucchini. Long and slender when young, and more chubby in appearance as it gets a bit older. It is good for slicing across to create "rounds", or slicing lengthwise to serve as "sticks". Let it get larger and cut in half lengthwise to use as a "boat" for you favorite ground meat stuffing.

Delicious flavor. You'll find that Butterstick has a nice mild, yet rich flavor. It goes very well with cheese and creamy sauces. The first year we grew Butterstick, we ate it two meals a day during the growing season, and never tired of it. A regular green zucchini is bland by comparison.

Dries and freezes well. If you can't have it fresh, then you can dry or freeze it, and you'll still enjoy it's delicious flavor.

Grow it to any size you want. Like any of the zucchini type squash, when about 6 inches in length, they are a gourmet treat. Our experience shows that Butterstick has small seeds even when the fruit is allowed to grow to a larger size. Seeds become an issue at 14 inches or more, but the flesh remains delicious and tender even if you allow the fruit to grow to the size of your forearm.

Handsome and modest size bush. Butterstick grows on a handsome bush that sports deeply serrated and mottled leaves. The plant remains a modest size, so two can be easily grown in a 3 by 6 foot garden space.

So, there you have it. A beautiful modest sized plant that is easy to grow and produces an abundance of delicious fruit that serves up well anytime you wish to harvest. Extra fruit can be frozen or dried to bring back the delicious memories of summer in the middle of the winter. If you only grew Butterstick summer squash, you wouldn't want for any others.

Clair Schwan is an experienced vegetable gardener with open sun and greenhouse garden beds. However, during the winter there are fewer types of fruits and vegetables available to start with. You can get around this by stocking up on dried plums and figs because they are packed with several nutrients, such as fiber, iron, potassium, and calcium.

These two super foods contain 100 and 110 calories per serving, respectively. Aside from having lots of calcium, dried plums have contain about thirty percent of our daily need for vitamin K, an essential vitamin that is also important for good bone health.

When you buy your dried plums and figs, they should feel soft and plump. If stored in airtight containers, and in a cool, dark, and cold place, they will last for months. You can choose to buy your dried plums with or without pits. Figs have a brown color to them when they are dried, as they are produced from mission or green figs.

You can make stews with your dried plums and figs. You can have just the plums and figs with chicken broth and other fruits and vegetables. Or, you can throw in some beef for a heartier meal. One other thing you can do is stuff them into pork loin. Chop them up and mix them with nuts, feta cheese, and greens to make a nutritious salad. However, there nothing wrong with having them straight up as a snack!

Taylor Z Madison has been writing articles for 5 years, covering a number of topics such as health, fitness, and home and gardening. It's comfortable to you and you've settled into some favored meals. But just what do you do about snacks for the little ones? Kids are burning energy at a massive rate and almost always hungry. Are there primal snack choices for them?

You bet there are! Here are quite a few primal snack ideas:

Nut butters: these are a favorite of kids everywhere. You may be trying to avoid peanuts like many other primal families. That doesn't mean your kids can't enjoy these easy spreads, however. There's a wide range of nut butter available. My family's favorite is one made locally with almonds, vanilla extract, and palm oil. It tastes so good we can't believe there's no sugar in it! You can also get butters made from cashews, sunflower seeds, and many other nuts and seeds.

You can serve nut butters in a variety of ways. My kids like them by the spoonful. You can also serve them on various veggies and fruits for a crunchy, tasty snack.

Nuts and Seeds: These of course run along the same lines as the above snack, but they're not quite as fun;) Nuts and seeds make a great "on the go" snack for you and for your kids.

You can combine nuts and seeds with berries and dried fruits for a primal trail mix. You should limit the amounts of dried fruits because drying does tend to concentrate the sugar. But as an addition to a nutrient-dense mix of nuts and seeds dried fruits really shine.

Canned fish: One of the only canned foods you'll find on a primal diet, canned fish of various kinds make good primal snacks. Fish is very good for children and most children will eat canned fish. You can make canned tuna into tuna salad and serve with celery, or serve with crunchy homemade vegetable chips.

You can also make a really good dip with canned salmon. Many children will eat sardines right out of the can.

These foods are quick and easy to serve and rich in fats and oils that enhance your child's brain development.

Smoked fish and Homemade Jerkies: These two foods are quick and easy to serve and most kids love them, especially homemade beef jerky. Smoked fish has the benefits of canned fish above, and perhaps more due to the gentler smoking process. Homemade beef jerky is very nutrient dense and great for kids' developing jaw muscle strength!

Fruits and Vegetables: Fruits and vegetables have been highlighted several times above in tandem with other things, but they also shine on their own. Serve your kids these tasty treats in the whole form most of the time. You can serve them with fat-rich dressings and saute fruits in butter for better nutrient absorption (make your own dressings). Vegetables should make up the bulk of your primal kid's carbohydrate intake.

Dairy: Some argue that dairy isn't very primal, but many primal families enjoy dairy. Milk, cheese, yogurt, and kefir can all make nutrient dense snacks your little ones will love.

Remember when you're shopping for snacks that fresh produce in season is best. Choose quality seafood and meats for snacks you're going to prepare for your children, as well. Get foods that are raised or caught ethically and cleanly if at all possible. This is best for the environment, and most importantly, these foods will give your kids the most health benefits.

Kristen greatly enjoys writing and producing articles. Synsepalum dulcificum is the binomial name of the more commonly known miracle fruit (or miracle berry). The fruit from the tree can be eaten fresh. When eaten, it causes the tongue to experience bitter and sour food as sweet-tasting for over a period of 30 minutes to two hours.

The miracle berry can be taken fresh from one of the miracle fruit trees, but be sure to consume it immediately after picking from the bush. This is to ensure that you are taking it in its best form. It is, however, a safe idea to make sure that it is washed and cleaned thoroughly before taking it. This is to ensure that no microorganisms that can cause illnesses will march into your body due to eating an unclean berry.

Recently a company has produced miracle berries in tablet-like form, which can be chewed or simply left to dissolve on the tongue. These tablets are claimed to contain the fruit extract in its natural form. They make the tablets by keeping them freeze-dried right after picking them from the bush of one of the miracle fruit trees. After they are frozen and dried, it they grind it into a powdered form which is then compressed into tablets, ready to be eaten.

To keep its natural and fresh state, the tablets are placed in sealed blister packs of about 10 tablets and then sealed again in plastic or metallic packaging. Now it is so convenient - just buy it from the store or online, then take the miracle berry tablet. The good thing about these miracle berry tablets is that they can be stored for up to 18 months.

It is basically easy to take and use the tablets: just let one dissolve on your tongue like an ordinary piece of candy. Once dissolved, you are ready to eat any bitter or sour food for the next 30 minutes to two hours. This is especially true for those of us who live a fast-paced life, busily going from one responsibility to the next on automatic pilot mode, without much though on what we eat or how we eat it.

Before we know it, we have gained unwanted weight, we are experiencing mood swings and we sometimes feel lethargic or out of sorts. A Glycemic Index List can help us determine which foods to take and which ones to avoid to get the highest nutritional value of the foods we eat and also provide us with better health and all-around well-being.

Based on studies conducted by the Stanford Center for Research in Disease Prevention, the following Glycemic Index List can provide us with optimum health and general well-being.

FOODS TO TAKE

• Lean meats-beef, pork, lamb with the fats taken out
• Chicken - skin taken out
• Seafood - mussels, oysters, lobsters
• Fish - frozen and canned are okay
• Vegetables - artichokes, asparagus, bean sprouts, broccoli, cabbages, raw carrots, cauliflower, peas, radishes, onion, olives, radishes, soybeans, tomatoes
• Fruits - apples, apricots, berries, grapes, grapefruits, kiwi, melon, orange, papaya, pear, pineapples, watermelon, cherries, cantaloupe
• Breads and Cereals - whole grains, wheat, rye, multi-grain, oats, rice bran
• Starch - whole-wheat pastas, brown rice, couscous, lentils
• Dairy - low-fat or fat-free cheese, low-fat cottage cheese, egg whites, low-fat milk, tofu, low-fat/sugar-free yogurt
• Beverages - water, coffee without sugar and cream, diet colas, sugar-free drinks, tea without sugar

FOODS TO AVOID

• Bacon
• Fatty meats
• Fried chicken with skin
• Duck
• Fish sticks
• Hotdogs
• Liver
• Liverwurst
• Canned fish/seafood in oil
• Vegetables - avocado, beets, cooked carrots, corn, olives in oil, parsnips, sweet pickles, potatoes
• Fruits - bananas, preserved fruits, coconut, dates, dried fruits, fruit juices, mangoes, marmalade, raisins
• Breads and Cereals - bagels, biscuits, white bread, chips, cookies, croissants, pastries, muffins, popcorn, rolls, waffles, non-whole wheat tortillas, cakes
• Starch - baked or re-fried beans, ramen noodles, white pasta, pretzels, white or fried rice, soups unless vegetable broth, taco shells
• Dairy - cheese not included in Foods to Take, cream cheese, frozen yogurt, ice cream, sorbet
• Beverages - alcoholic drinks, all types of sweetened drinks

Taking into consideration all the types of foods in the Glycemic Index List that are okay for us to take will help lower our blood sugar particularly if we are suffering from diabetes, manage our weight, and reduce the possibility of heart diseases.

We can place our own Glycemic Index List within easy sight in our kitchens so we can be guided accordingly.

Please click these links if you want to know more about glycemic index list or printable grocery lists in general.

Visit : all clad masterchef 2 7 piece cookware set cuisinart multiclad unlimited 12 piece cookware
Ramonahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14535292972414165373noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5747319340861923713.post-79884974347314375632011-10-05T22:21:00.001-07:002011-10-05T22:21:46.205-07:00How to Dry Peaches, Apricots Or Plums
Dry fruit are delicious and we all know that. Unfortunately, only a few people know that dry fruit are also the healthiest if they are prepared at home. Probably, you all imagine that it is very complicated to dry fruit. Anyone can prepare some dry apricots or some dry peaches, which can be served for dessert or for breakfast with a bowl of muesli and milk.

The main condition you have to fulfill in order to get some healthy dry fruit is to be careful and to use only fruit which are clean and which aren't bruised. If you are thinking of apricots, peaches or plums, you have to use big fruits because they shrink in time. All you need for such a process are the plums, apricots or peaches, which have to be big and gauze.

The first step you have to follow is to wash the fruit very well and to remove all the peaches and so on which are bruised. You cut the peaches and the apricots in half or, when it comes to plums, you leave them as they are and you only take the cores out. Then, you cover the grill of the oven with a piece of cloth that you have already prepared and you put the fruit on it. When it comes to peaches and apricots, these have to be facing the ceiling. You let them dry, keeping the oven door half open, the time of preparation being of about thirty-six up to forty hours. Once your fruit are dry, you move them in a dry and cold place and you leave them there. We guarantee you that they will remain intact for months.

If your kitchen is missing some can openers, you can now get a cordless can opener from our website, where you have a lot of electric can openers and many more.

My Links : cuisinart chef's classic stainless steel 10 piece kitchenaid 10 piece cookware set kitchenaid gourmet essentials 12 piece
Ramonahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14535292972414165373noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5747319340861923713.post-8552644064561002652011-10-04T22:18:00.001-07:002011-10-04T22:18:46.839-07:00Acai Berry - The Health Benefits in Weight Loss Products
There is a lot of talk about acai on the web and news raving over the benefits in ones health and weight loss this product can deliver. Healthy diet--which include eating balanced amount of food from all food groups--along with exercise or regular physical activity can lessen people's inclination to health problems.

PLANNING ON A HEALTHY DIET

Experts say that though basic principle of healthy diet is simple, most people are having a hard time sticking to it. Major reasons may include a super busy lifestyle, work that causes a lot of stress or even an environment that is not conducive to having a healthy diet.

Although it is hard to start and maintain a healthy diet, nothing is impossible if you really want to achieve a healthy mind and body. For starters, it is advisable to mix up food choices from each food group. Eating a large variety of foods and veggies can also serve as a warm up in avoiding the foods that contribute to drastic weight gain. Having a balanced intake of calcium-rich foods, whole grains, and protein-rich products will also keep you in track.

To be able to maintain eating a healthy diet, you must also know your restrictions of fats, salt and sugars levels, and intakes. Lastly, you must monitor your body weight regularly for you to know if your body is absorbing all the nutrients it needs.

Here are more tips for eating well and achieving a healthy diet:

1. Meals based on starchy foods are a good start to a healthy diet. Experts agree that people should eat more starchy foods such as bread, cereals, rice, pasta, and potatoes because they are a good source of energy--not to mention being the main source of a range of nutrients of a person's diet like fiber, calcium, iron, and vitamin B.

2. Load up a lot of fruits and veggies. Eating at least 5 portions of a variety of fruit and vegetables a day is an ideal way to maintain a healthy diet. But, it is sometimes hard to achieve because people do not want to waste time peeling or chopping certain fruits and veggies. The best way to keep up with the recommended fruit and veggies intake if to eat a variety of fruits that are either fresh, frozen, canned or dried and picking out veggies that can be finger delights such as celery, broccoli, carrots, beans and peas.

3. Be more "fishy." Despite of the so-called "high mercury content" of fish, nutrition experts say that eating more fish--especially oily fish--is an important component of a healthy diet because it is a good source of protein, vitamins, and minerals.

4. Try to cut down on saturated fats and sugars. Do not totally cut down on fats because your body needs it to stay healthy. Basically, fats are categorized into saturated and unsaturated fat. The former has high amount of cholesterol and the latter has lower amounts that lowers blood cholesterol. Cut down only on foods that are high in saturated fat such meat pies, sausages, hard cheese, butter and lard, pastry, cakes and biscuits, cream and the like. Also monitor your sugar intake because aside from causing decay, sugary foods can also be high in calories that contribute to weight gain.

5. Eat less salt. Too much salt can raise your blood pressure.

6. Drink lots and lots of water to keep your body well-hydrated.

Low Jeremy maintains http://diet-plans.articlesforreprint.com This content is provided by Low Jeremy. You need to check into some diverticulitis diets. Ones with lots of homemade vegetable and fruit juices is a smart choice, or if need be add some juices to the diet, like making your own carrot, papaya, cantaloupe or watermelon juice, which are all well known for there digestive enzymes, or you can even mix and match them.

You can find a diet for diverticulitis which can and will help all digestive problems. My holistic journey started back in the early 1980's with a natural colon cleansing product that I tried for about 6-8 weeks and boy did it work. Next I purchased a juicer called the champion juicer and I have personally known the benefits for many years.

It changed my life in and astounding way. Not to mention weight control, overall feeling more healthy and energetic.

I have been using a juice man junior juicer for quite some time now and you can buy several different juice machines for under a hundred dollars these days. Cutting back on your fiber intake during flare ups will reduce bowel movements, there by reducing inflammation, irritation and possible infection.

As for diverticulitis diets, carrot juice is practically a miracle food in most nutritionists opinions, lettuce, potatoes, beets, celery can all be eaten or juiced for part of a correct diet for diverticulitis. Prunes, prune juice, cabbage and many dried fruits and nuts are some of the foods to avoid during an attack. Lots of healthy fluids are needed including water, and stay away from fruits and vegetables that may be to acidic.

You should begin to slowly add a proper high fiber diet back in as soon as your feeling well and moving away from any previously bad eating habits that contributed to the signs and symptoms. This will also help to prevent any and all future health problems as well. Be sure though to continue any of the new healthy habits you picked up along the way.

There are actually some very good diverticulitis diets and books on digestive problems available online.

Receive a free report on solving diverticulitis and other digestive problems

See Also : kitchenaid 12 piece cookware set breville sk500xl ikon cordless 1.7 liter stainless farberware cookware set 10 piece
Ramonahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14535292972414165373noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5747319340861923713.post-39539898331143471812011-10-01T21:39:00.001-07:002011-10-01T21:39:45.090-07:00Rosh Hashanah Party Menu Ideas for Celebrating a Time-Honored Occasion
Rosh Hashanah is a traditional Jewish holiday, celebrated in September with family and friends. This is a contentious topic, but it has to be the case that some foodstuffs are better for you than others, but whether it is justifiable to hype up a foodstuff for a quick sale is another issue. Blueberries are a case in point. Are blueberries a super fruit or not?

Proponents of blueberries say that they are rich in antioxidants and that they are able to improve vision and relieve eye strain; improve brain and memory functions and resist urinary tract infections (UTI's). Blueberries are said to be rich in antioxidants and anthocyanins, but what are they?

Well, antioxidants are said to counteract the effects of oxidation and free radicals, which are frequently linked to the development of cancer and anthocyanins are a form of flavonoids, which are also an anti-carcinogen.

Blueberries are also in the bottom category of the Glycemic Index. The Glycemic Index uses white bread as the marker against which every foodstuff is calculated. Above 70 is thought to be high; between 56 and 59 is medium and below 55 is low. Blueberries, at 53, is at the high end of low. This is not vital knowledge for lots of people, but it is important for dieters and diabetics.

Blueberries are said to improve eyesight because of the anthocyanins, which strengthen the capillaries, which would help the flow of blood to the eyes, which may help preserve vision. This would relieve eye strain or eye tiredness

If this helps preserve vision, it would also delay hair loss, because hair loss is normally associated with a lack of blood/nutrition to the hair follicles which then just die of starvation, as in male pattern baldness.

Blueberries are a fruit high in flavonoids which are antioxidants as stated above. Some people claim that flavonoids can improve the connections between neurons in the brain, which would almost certainly increase mental capacity.

It might also slow down the deterioration of brain cells and so also the traditionally-perceived decline in mental capacity that is associated with increasing age. If this is the case, then the consumption of blueberries would also help slow down the progression of lack of motor control: that is, it could help the elderly move more naturally, less inelegantly.

However, the same individuals will admit that to create a 5-6% improvement in motor skills would almost certainly take a daily consumption of about 100 grammes per day, which is naturally not an insignificant amount, even if you like them and cultivate them yourself.

It has also been stated that the daily consumption of blueberries reduces the level of LDL in the blood, which is popularly called 'bad cholesterol'.

If you would like to test the effects of eating blueberries on yourself, here are a few suggestions on how you can incorporate them into your diet.

Fresh blueberries: eat when in season and freeze as many as you can get hold of.

Frozen blueberries: cook in pancakes, muffins and put in home-made ice-cream.

Dried blueberries: eat like raisins as a snack or coat in chocolate.

In this way, you will be able to answer the question for yourself: blueberries are they a super fruit?

Owen Jones, the author of this piece, writes on a number of topics, and is now involved with detox diet menu. The most well known in commerce is the delicious Mangosteen from Malaya and SE. Asia with peach like flowers and purplish fruits, known as "Queen of Tropical Fruit".

Mangosteen is a small and slow-growing tropical evergreen tree growing to a maximum of about 20m. The tree is a broad leafed evergreen with short columnar or pyramidal form. The large green/yellow flowers are tinged with red - about 20-30 mm in diameter occurring singly or in pairs on older branchlets. Male or hermaphrodite flowers can be found on the same tree.

Purple Mangosteen is a common fruit native to South East Asia and found in Thailand, India, Malaysia, Vietnam and the Philippines requiring very humid, equatorial climate. The flavour is sweet and melting. It has a reputation for being the most delicious tropical fruit in existence! The tree takes from 12-20 years to reach full fruiting maturity. The seeds are edible and eaten boiled or roasted.

The accumulated knowledge of centuries of ancient Asian medicine has been passed down from generation to generation and also to early European explorers and settlers. It is no wonder that recent modern scientific research seeks to verify the traditional claims of the beneficial properties of the fruit and rind when research already indicates properties in the fruit that can inhibit several types of cancer including breast cancer, liver cancer and leukemia.

Mangosteen also has anti-histamine and anti-inflammatory properties. The whole fruit has been used traditionally, as a medicinal treatment for diarrhoea, skin infection and wounds throughout South East Asia.

One of the most powerful antioxidants in nature, called xanthone, is found in the Mangosteen pericarp and also in the whole fruit. Xanthones are recognized for their medicinal potential, and proven benefit in certain diseases as well as providing a general health benefit, particularly on the cardiovascular system. They are also naturally antibiotic, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory. Mangosteen has an inhibitory action against the bacterial organisms such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Staphylococcus aureus. It has also gained a reputation for effective strengthening the immune system.

Its cultivation outside S.E. Asia generally has little success because of the trees' need of heat and water. In spite of that, many people have tried to plant Mangosteen in other places, such as California, Florida, North Queensland with a degree of success. Mature trees of about 10 years of age begin to yield from 500-1500 fruits. Fruit quality is destroyed with refrigeration and this presents problems with marketing and transport.

The Mangosteen fruit consist of 3 major parts.

The Pericarp - is the rind or peel and contains the highest level of xanthones.

The fruit pulp - is considered as one of the tastiest fruits in the world - commercially offered as a juice

The seeds - found within the white pulp

The other known species of the genus also produce fruits that may have potentially similar properties but scientific tests have so far focused upon the popular "Queen of Fruits" or Purple Mangosteen to which the above information relates. Although other species offer fruits that are reported as edible, none deserve as much attention and appreciation as the one that is popularly known as the Mangosteen.

Other species however, may promise further rewards for those who persist in seeking to demonstrate the validity of traditional therapeutic claims such as the recent findings of the Purple Mangosteen in successful treatment of a wide range of difficult conditions such as autism and neurological diseases. Others offer avenues for possible discovery of other interesting properties-

1. gibbsiae Mountain Mangosteen of Australia from Atherton region is a tree with simple leaves and twigs that exude yellow latex. The fruits are to 60 mm with green flesh and are not edible. They contain clearly segmented 8 or 9 cells each containing a single seed has yellow waxy perfumed flowers and purple berries. It is attracting some attention by plant researchers.

2. hanburyii Gutta gamba, Gamboge from Thailand and Sri Lanka provides the official Gamboge, a bright yellow pigment esteemed by artists because it imparted a wonderful orange colour to their paintings. Also used as dye for yellow robes of Buddhist priests. Still mentioned in the U.S. Pharmacopoeia for use in dropsical conditions and to lower blood pressure where there is cerebral congestion but now greater caution is advised. It has a reputation as a drastic and sometimes dangerous cathartic.

3. indica Goa Butter, Kokam butters, produce an edible oil from seeds. The dried fruit rind is used in curries.

4. intermedia Lemon Drop Mangosteen has pleasant melting flesh and wrinkled skin. All species of mangosteen rind is used as a spice.

5. mestonii Native Mangosteen, Meston's Mangosteen from Queensland rainforests growing to 15m. Flowers are pink in terminal clusters. Large reddish purple large, edible fruits to 7 cm. It is related but cannot compare to the exotic mangosteen. It has not been developed in cultivation.

6. sessilis has an ornamental deep pink/red flower is adopted as the national flower of Tonga.

7. subellipticad Fukugi from Japan is held as the floral symbol of Mobuto and Tarama on Okinawa.

8. tinctoria - related to the mangosteen - and is reported to have a delicious fruit.

9. warrenii Native Mangosteen White, beautifully fragrant flowers followed by round purple fruit with sweet orange/brown edible flesh. Slow growing to 13m. It has been recommended for cultivation. Branches and leaves when bruised exude yellow latex. It is a large fruit to 60 mm occurring singly or in clusters and contains either 2-3 seeds. Found from Babinda to Cape York.

Most species in Garcinia are known for their resins or yellowish gums used as purgatives but recent research claims to have found hydroxycitric acid in the rind. Although toxic it suggests an appetite suppressant could be developed as medication in over indulged wealthy countries. There is considerable interest in the successful results of the whole fruit juice in treatment of autism and many other symptoms so evident now in our chemically toxic environment.

Aromatherapy or the science of Osmics is proving immensely popular when applied in self help or in professional healing. Its history can be traced back six thousand years to Ancient Egypt. At the time, people dried fruit in the sun as a method of food preservation. But beyond simple preservation, it had several advantages over fresh fruit. For starters, it was highly portable and could be taken along as a snack without having to worry about it spoiling in the desert sun. And as a snack, they were preferable to fresh fruits because they provide sugar in a more concentrated form. Dried fruits like raisins also added a boost of flavor to bland foods.

Are they as healthy as fresh fruit? The answer is probably not. You see, when fruit is dried the dehydration often removes more than just water. Many of the water soluble vitamins like vitamin C and the B vitamins are also removed. As we mentioned, dried fruits are also higher in sugars, which means that they have more calories. But this is not necessarily a bad thing, since sugar provides energy. That may be why this is a common ingredient in popular trail mix snack packs.

We also know that dried fruits like raisins and dates are a good source of fiber. The most obvious benefit of fiber is that it promotes regular bowel movements, which will improve overall digestive health. Studies have also shown that high fiber diets can reduce cholesterol levels and may even reduce the risk of certain types of cancer.

Where can you find them? Most supermarkets stock small assortments of these items. But if you want an impressive selection of the fruits either for personal use or to send as a gift, we suggest dried fruit baskets. These baskets can be purchased at competitive prices from fruit sellers on the internet.

The average dried fruit basket will only set you back about thirty to forty dollars and it will include an impressive arrangement of delicious dried fruits. Unlike fresh fruit baskets that often only feature three or four different fruits, these offer a larger sampling. The baskets that we reviewed contained half a dozen food items, including raisins, dates, pears, figs, cherries and sliced pineapples.

But before you buy, make certain that you locate a company that uses natural methods to dry their fruits, rather than chemical agents. Sure, it might end up costing you a bit more, but your family and friends will taste the difference.

And of course, fruit baskets make a perfect gift!

Related : kitchenaid gourmet essentials 2 quart tea kettle all clad stainless steel 10 piece cookware set
Ramonahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14535292972414165373noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5747319340861923713.post-37964964868034494502011-09-26T20:42:00.001-07:002011-09-26T20:42:46.943-07:00Dried Fruit
Dried fruit is a very useful ingredient in both savory cooking and desserts. It offers a concentrated burst of sweetness and can often help curb even the most persistent sweet tooth. You can either dry your own or purchase the dried fruit at the supermarket. Raisins, dried apples, dried figs, and dried bananas, and other types of dried fruit can be used in a variety of ways. Here are some suggestions.

Substitute Dried Fruit for Fresh

Dried fruit makes a wonderful addition to any recipe. In blueberry or cranberry muffins, for example, you can substitute dried fruit for the fresh version. If the recipe calls for one cup of fresh fruit, use ½ cup dried fruit. Soak the fruit in a little orange juice or water to make it plump.

Dried Fruit Trail Mix

Dried fruit makes a great addition to any trail mix. The simple sugars are a healthy substitute for candy and they offer a quick energy burst when you need it. If your hike is strenuous, you'll need to eat a constant amount of food to keep your energy and stamina up. Just mix the dried fruit of your choice with other ingredients such as pretzels, cereal, nuts, and crackers. Keep the mix within easy reach so you can munch it on the trail.

Savory Cooking with Dried Fruit

You can also include small pieces of dried fruit in savory cooking. Incorporating raisins and chopped dates into a couscous, rice, or lentil pilaf offers a good way to contrast spicy and sweet in the same dish. Other dried fruits, such as mango or pineapple, work well in different sauces and glazes. For advice on cooking with dried fruit, you can either search online or look in cookbooks. Middle Eastern food often incorporates dried fruit in their dishes.

Dried fruit serves as a healthy snack or interesting accompaniment to your meal. In reality however, they're nothing but a processed sugar that's disguised to look healthy. So if you're feeding your kids these things, you might want to consider a healthier alternative.

These sugary sweets have actually been around since the early 1900's, but didn't become popular until the 1980's. Their popularity soared because of their ability to be molded into hundreds of different shapes and sizes.

Yet what many of us don't realize is that they are pumped full of corn syrup, gelatin, partially hydrogenated oils, artificial flavors and colors. And because they contain gelatin, they are often sticky in consistency, which can easily lead to tooth decay. That is why many dentists do not recommend giving these to children at all.

And while many may argue that they do contain some juice, it's not nearly enough to even be considered beneficial. And while you may think that the organic ones are better, think again! Even those contain unhealthy ingredients that are disguised and are just as bad for your kids.

Besides being bad for your teeth, they can also cause heart disease, diabetes and obesity in children. So instead of offering a snack that has no nutritional value whatsoever, why not offer a better choice such as fresh fruits. They offer an excellent source of vitamins and fiber.

If your child is picky you could also offer dried fruits. However take care in doing so since these can be just as bad for you if they're loaded with sugar and other artificial ingredients. If he or she won't accept either one, you might want to try introducing them to a fruit juice. Although juice doesn't contain nearly as many nutrients as the real thing, it still has some nutritional value and a much better healthy alternative. Just be sure it is 100% natural and not a cocktail since it contains corn syrup. Eat right and live better for your children's sake and your own.

Harold M Stokes is an expert on eating healthy, living healthy and natural vitamin supplements such as can be found at http://www.seaaloes.com/. In the process of sprouting, the vitamins, minerals and protein increase substantially with corresponding decrease in calories and carbohydrate content. These comparisons are based on an equivalent water content in the foods measured. Analysis of dried seeds, grains and legumes shows a very low water content. But this increases upto tenfold when the same food is converted into sprouts. For accurate comparison each must be brought to a common denomination of equal water content to assess the exact change brought in nutritional value.

Sprouted mung beans, for instance, have a 8.3 increase of water content over dried beans.

Hence the nutritional value of sprouted and dried mung beans can be compared by multiplying
the analysed nutrients of sprouted mung beans by the factor of 8.3. Based on this criterion, the
changes found in sprouted mung beans when compared with the figures for the beans in the
dried state are as follows:

Energy content - calories Decrease 15 percent

Total carbohydrate content Decrease 15 percent

Protein availability Increase 30 percent

Calcium content Increase 34 percent

Potassium content Increase 80 percent

Sodium content Increase 690 percent

Iron content Increase 40 percent

Phosphorous content Increase 56 percent

Vitamin A content Increase 285 percent

Thiamine or Vitamin B1 content Increase 208 percent

Riboflavin or Vitamin B2 content Increase 515 percent

Niacin or Vitamin B3 content Increase 256 percent

Ascorbic acid or Vitamin C content An infinite increase

The increase in protein availability is of great significance. It is a valuable indicator of the
enhanced nutritional value of a food when sprouted. The simultaneous reduction in carbohydrate
content indicates that many carbohydrate molecules are broken down during sprouting to allow
an absorption of atmospheric nitrogen and reforming into amino-acids. The resultant protein is
the most easily digestible of all proteins available in foods.

The remarkable increase in sodium content supports the view that sprouted foods offer
nutritional qualities. Sodium is essential to the digestive process within the gastro-intestinal tract
and also to the elimination of carbon dioxide. Together with the remarkable increase in vitamins,
sodium materially contributes to the easy digestibility of sprouts.
Dried seeds, grains and legumes do not contain discernible traces of ascorbic acid, yet when
sprouted, they reveal quite significant quantities which are important in the body's ability to
metabolise proteins. The infinite increase in ascorbic acid derives from their absorption of
atmospheric elements during growth.

Sprouts have several other benefits. They supply food in predigested form, that is, the food
which has already been acted upon by the enzymes and made to digest easily. During
sprouting, much of the starch is broken down into simple sugars such as glucose and sucrose by
the action of the enzyme 'amylase'. Proteins are converted into amino acids and amides. Fats
and oils are converted into more simple fatty acids by the action of the enzyme lipase.
During sprouting, the beans lose their objectionable gas producing quality. Research has shown
that oligosaccharides are responsible for gas formation. For maintenance of health, some
amount of gas production is necessary but it should be within safe limits. As the process of
germination ends and sprouting begins, the percentage of oligosaccharides is reduced by 90.
Sprouts contain a lot of fibre and water and, therefore, are helpful in overcoming constipation.

Sprouts are an extremely inexpensive method of obtaining a concentration of vitamins, minerals
and enzymes. They have in them all the constituent nutrients of fruits and vegetables and are
'live' foods. Eating sprouts is the safest and best way of getting the advantage of both fruits and
vegetables without contamination and harmful insecticides.

It should, however, be ensured that seeds and dried beans are purchased from a store where
they are fresh, unsprayed and packaged as food. Seeds that are packaged for planting purposes
may contain mercury compounds or other toxic chemicals.

To learn more about the energy principle in healing, please read:

Cost-free Miracle Asthma Cure
Overcome Type I Diabetes and Type II Diabetes Naturally
Alternative Treatments for Incurable Diseases made easy

Friends Link : cuisinart multiclad pro stainless 12 pc cookware
Ramonahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14535292972414165373noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5747319340861923713.post-90762017932206150562011-09-23T13:51:00.001-07:002011-09-23T13:51:44.452-07:00Special Fruits Used In The Treatment Of Diabetes
It is well known that a person suffering of diabetes has special needs regarding food and diet.

One of the most valuable fruits used in the diabetic's diet is the apple. Apples contain in their rind and pulp a high level of pectine, which supplies the galacturonic acid needed in the process of cleaning the body of harmful substances. It also decreases the body's need of insulin by 35%.

Besides pectine, apples also contain vitamin B1, which has an important role in preventing brain damages during diabetic acidosis, and reverses a complication that appears in diabetes: the neurosis. This complication can be relieved by administering high doses of vitamin B1.

Another valuable fruit is the grapefruit, a citrus fruit. Besides its appetizing properties and its refreshing qualities, studies have proved its usefulness in decreasing the level of sugar in the blood if taken two weeks, three times a day. Here is Why
Are you one of those people who say "I love fruits, but it does not love me?" Or "I love fruits, but I just can't eat it". a lot of people think that they are allergic to fruits because of the gas, bloating, and flatulence they experience after eating fruits. However, is this really an allergy to fruits or is it something else?

Most people I meet love fruits, both young and old we all love fruits. The reason why we instinctively crave fruits is because it is the one who by the human body is perfectly, biologically adopted to. Most fresh fruits are extremely high in water content with some fruits having up to 90% cleansing, life-giving, and new trade Pack water. This water is perfect for cleansing and ridding the body of dangerous toxic waste matter. Roots contains all the vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, amino acids, fatty Acids that the body requires each day

The body uses more energy indigestion than for any other process vital energy is redirected from other processes that the body must perform in order to digest our food. Fruits on the other hand requires less energy to digest than any other food group.

Fruits are not digested in the stomach, all fruits, with the exception of bananas, dates, and dried fruit, stays in the stomach only for a very short time. This is very important to remember because if fruits are not intended to stay in the stomach for very long, incorrect consumption means that fruits should never be the immediately before or immediately after anything else. It is vital that when you eat fruits is eaten on them to stomach. Let's just say you had a medium-size lunch burgers and fries, and then you eat a fruit salad.

The fruits are ready to go straight to the summa into the contest aims but it is being prevented by the burger you ate just before. In the meantime the entire meal that is the burgers, fries and the fruit salad stays in your stock and for many this. The very action of fermentation produces gas, and lots of it. This is the main reason why most people think they are allergic to fruits.

So you at the fruit salad immediately after you at your lunch, you get gas, our ability, or indigestion, or flatulence, and you blame it on the fruits. If the fruits were eaten first in about 30 minutes were allowed to pass before eating your meal the fruits would have left to stumble and moved on to the intestinal tract and no problem would've resulted.

So if you have been constantly blaming fruits for your gastric disturbances, try eating fruits at least 30 minutes before consuming your meal, or wait at least two hours after you have consumed your meal. The point is to eat fruits once your stomach is empty. This way you would enjoy all the benefits of fruits and at the same time prevent any discomfort that you may have had in the past.

The intestines are where all the nutrients are absorbed, because fruits reached in testing this within minutes of eating, it's nutrients are immediately absorbed and euthanized by the body. By eating only fruits in the morning between 7 and 12 PM you will make your entire day more productive and you will have more energy.

Jonathon is a consumer watch and report online advocate, he review popular house hold goods and services especially health and fitness products and shows people where and when to get the best possible deals online.
