Dehydrated Fruit - A Healthier Snack Alternative For Kids

Let's face it - most kids live on junk food. Children just love sweet snacks and parents all over the country are incessantly frustrated in trying to figure out ways to make their children eat healthier snacks. For this problem, dehydrated fruit can be the simple solution.

In the beginning, you as a parent might be skeptical, as fruits are not that popular with young children. But dehydrated fruit is still a sweet snack, and what kid will not go for a sweet snack? Give it a chance, you might be surprised at how receptive your kids could be to nutritious snacks.

Dried Fruit

You might wonder, if we are trying to dissuade children from eating too much sugary snacks, why are we going to offer them dehydrated fruit? Isn't that yet another source of sugar? The answer is yes, dehydrated fruit does have sugar in it, but the difference is that the sugar in dehydrated fruit is natural, as opposed to the sugar in junk foods, which is refined and can cause more harm to the body.

Let us go into it a little further. Junk foods contain processed sugar. What happens to this sugar upon ingestion is that it immediately enters a person's bloodstream and is converted to fat.

This rapid absorption causes the person to get hungry again at a much faster rate, and so it causes greater food consumption. This is why processed sugar is one of the leading factors in obesity.

On the other hand, the natural sugar in dehydrated fruit, while it can still enter a person's bloodstream, is not as harmful as the refined variety. Natural sugar takes much longer to enter the bloodstream so the body has more time to burn it, and less of it is converted to fat.

This does not mean, though, that it is okay to consume unlimited amounts of dehydrated fruit. You must still know how to eat in moderation, as natural sugar can still be a cause of obesity.

Still, no matter how you look at it, dehydrated fruit is an infinitely better snack choice rather than junk foods. When your kids get used to that idea, they will carry it as they grow older, and that will give them a better and healthier life.
