Avoid the Vending Machine - Bring Healthy Snacks to the Office

Now that more and more corporations are instituting employee weight loss programs it is easier for employees to develop good eating habits in the workplace. Be prepared for the mid-morning or afternoon craving for a snack or a treat. Stay away from the vending machine and dig into your own bag of nutritional and healthy goodies.

Here are some tips for eating healthy snacks in the office:

Dried Fruit

o Raw nuts (organic if you can) are a great way to stave off hunger pangs. They are packed with nutrition and healthy oils. Stay away from roasted or processed because they are loaded with salt and oil. Raw almonds are great for dieting, walnuts, Brazilian nuts and Hazel nuts.
o Dried fruit is great to accompany the nuts. The two together are almost a meal in itself. Don't go overboard with the dried fruit because it is concentrated with sugar. If you can go organic, it's the better choice. Try organic raisins or cranberries, dried apples or figs. The nuts and fruit don't need refrigeration so you can stow a baggie in your drawer for a quick snack.
o High-fiber crackers with low sodium and high amounts of grain. There are so many healthy, nutritious crackers to choose from.
o Almond butter is better than peanut butter. High fiber, good fat and more nutritious than peanut butter. It's a great substitute for butter.

These are only a few suggestions for keeping on track through any weight loss program that you're on. We all know that the workplace is loaded with land mines in the fridge, near the water cooler, in the vending machine. Be smart and stay on track and bring your own nutritious snacks to work.
