Eating fruit brings a lot of health benefits. Fruit is good for us. When we were children we were no doubt told to eat fruit because it was good for us. Today, as parents with children of our own, we preach the same message to them. The truth is, fruit is good for us.
It has virtually no cholesterol, helps to protect us against cancer, and is a good source of fibre. How does this help us lose weight? Fibre helps control your blood sugar level, and following on from this, it helps us control our hunger. Good examples of foods which are high in fibre are strawberries. apples, pears, beans and oatmeal. Fruits such as bananas and apples are particularly good at making you feel full for a long time after you have eaten them, so making you eat less.
Dried Fruit
Other fruits which are readily available in the supermarkets and which are good sources of soluble fibre are pears, cherries, plums, peaches, kiwi fruit, grapes and tomatoes. These will all help you lose weight.
Not all fruit will help you lose weight. Canned fruit for example comes in heavy syrup and natural juices. The better choice is the fruit in natural juice.
Dried fruit too has high energy levels because all the water is removed, so they are not the best choice for weight loss. The best choice has to be fresh fruit because it has the least number of calories and will fill you up naturally. There are no added sugars.
Fresh fruit is just one component of a healthy diet and makes an excellent choice for a snack.
